Duel Sieger is the icon of Ancient World. You slap him into the center, keep him alive, and let him protect you until he is eventually defeated. Once he is defeated, he rises again into a new form.
| Duel... SIEEEEGERRRRR! |
Sieger used to be the strongest Ancient build, but was later beaten out by Raging Spirits(while still relevant). But with the release of Dragon Chief Emperors, which do what Sieger does but better, there isn't much reason to play Sieger anymore, outside of budget.
But hey, this is a budget fighting blog. Perfect. And all of the Siegers got reprinted as Rares and Uncommons. Even better.
The first thing we need to cover are the two base forms of Sieger: Martial Arts Dragon Emperor, Duel Sieger and Duel Sieger "SD". Duel Sieger is the bigger one, with a gauge cost of three and double attack, with the option to give him up to two soul from hand and the big bad Lifelink 5. "SD", in contrast, costs nothing, but gives up all of his abilities. But "SD" also has a skill that lets him discard himself and pay one gauge to toolbox any form of Duel Sieger and add it to your hand. I recommend using "SD" as your buddy to save on gauge and for consistency, but whichever you choose to use is going to be your buddy. You can also decide to use both, but if you do you're gonna have your buddy be...
Duel Sieger "Spartand"! The form your gonna be on for the majority of the game. With 8000/3/8000 stats and double attack, he's gonna be a real threat for your opponent. If you decide to use both base forms of Sieger, this guarantees the buddy gift since you're gonna call this over whatever you chose to go with anyways. And after Spartand falls we have...
Duel Sieger "Tempest Enforcer", who gives up his soulguard for his godly 12000/3/12000 stats and the possible game-ending Triple Attack. Since he has Lifelink Lose, I only recommend going into him only if you're going to lose through Spartand's death or are gunning for game.
| A Divine Disaster. Spooky |
Your other monster choices include Burning Right and Blizzard Left, who can offer some solid board clear alongside your Siegers, as well as Forbolka for extra gauge. Demonica nullifies spells and Glacies nullifies attacks. If you'd like, Lucus Vision can also be used to recycle Sieger "SD" and any other Siegers that may have fallen into the drop from the gauge.
Makings of a Great Dragon to search out your Siegers.
The staple Ancient World advantage engine: Divine Dragon Creation, Dragon Emperor Legend, Rise & Fall of Dragons, and Dragon Dreams. Except... Divine Dragon Creation goes anywhere from $15-20. Definitely not budget friendly. So what do we use as a replacement?

do what they gotta do

Two spells to help defend you big bad Sieger: Dragon Outlaw and Wrath Trigger. They also gift Counterattack, so they really help to get enemy attackers off the field.
The final spell I need to talk about is Rineryusho. It lets you kill off your own Duel Sieger on demand and gives you to one gauge to boot. This offers Sieger decks a really good offensive option. After a double attack with Spartand, you use Rineryusho to destroy Spartand and evolve him into Tempest Enforcer for another set of Triple Attacks. If they somehow survive, and you have enough gauge, you can Rineryusho again to go into "Sieger Turbulence" for another set of Triple Attack.
Every item that can attack with a monster in the center is a solid choice to back up Sieger, if you like items and still want to use them in Ancient.
Now onto the topic of Impacts. Steel Dragon Barrage has really solid value and can be used at anytime as a four damage missle. Maximum Manliness, while also having a beast-as-hell name, gives Sieger decks really solid board clear and damage for three gauge, so if played at the right time gets really solid value out of it. The last impact is the simple Big Catch Kigan, a two-gauge three-damage finisher that, while not as versatile as Steel Dragon Barrage, is still perfectly fine in a budget deck.
Decklist:
NOTE: This is only an example decklist and should only be used as a base. I recommended that you create your own decklist through your own testing. I found this decklist to fit me, but it is up to you to find a decklist that fits you.
