Part 1: The Special Set
S-SS01: Lost Dimension is a pretty good buy all-around. The Dragon World setup has some good cards like Demon Lord's Roaring Dragon Blast and Dragotrap (also Green and Blue Dragon Shields if you somehow don't have those). The real draw here, however, is the Lost Deck. The special set alone gives you access to a pretty good Vanity Husk Destroyer that retains the "real" Vanity's bounce/pop on-swing (one that saw play at Worlds a few days before this article was published) and one of the most useful removal cards in the current game in Deugaine Zascyth. Arlpow Peyduwallr is also a pretty decent card with access to... Almost every keyword ability aside from Move, I guess. Dimension Lifestream is a really good card to run at a single copy or two. Dimension Revive is also a decent card since it doesn't even specify Lostvaders. Dimension Revenge is really nice to have for closed-center budget decks, as well, since it also doesn't specify an attribute. Dimension Jamming could be better at more copies just to have, but honestly a well-timed activation of the single one included can be enough to win games. Hannel Kant Dauf is pretty decent, as well, seeing as 5 crit penetrate that swings for 50k is able to hit over... I'll say most things.
Other than the really good monsters, the special set is rather open-center based, as it comes with a weapon, a set spell that makes your opponent pay life to attack you (as opposed to your dudes), and a negate that only works if you have an open center. Of course, along with the good and the open-center stuff, you've also got your bad cards. I'm not much of a fan of the included impact (Blazer, the S-BT02 impact, is typically better) and Whistle Fedwal Ugaine (it's a good card, but it kind of pales in comparison to literally every other Lost World card), but most of the deck has at least some merit.
In short, if you plan to build anything that uses Lost World on a budget, pick this up well ahead of time. This way, you're making the initial investment of $30 or so if you can pick up the set and saving that amount on any deck you make in the future that runs Lost World in it. Honestly, if you want to take two, I wouldn't judge (although I do ask that you leave some for other players, as it would open up their options immensely when building).
Part 2: Upgrading It
Since this is a post I'm likely going to be linking in several future articles, I wanted to cover this in the same post. Let's move through upgrading the Lost Deck. I'd talk about the Dimension Dragon stuff, but that's not what I'm writing this post for. Basically, when upgrading your S-SS01, you'll want to start by rounding out playsets and then picking up the low-rarity goodstuff. Get 2 more Zascythes. As I said before, it's one of the most useful cards included in the start deck. After that, pick up a set of Vanity Cells. It's an affordable, by-the-numbers attack null that can be played whether you're playing open center or closed center. Vanity Zero Blazer!! is something you might also want, assuming you want to play any impacts in your lost deck. Arlpow Peyduwallr is useful to have more copies of if you want them, but you honestly can do without it just because Lost World already has enough broken cards, anyway.
Once you've rounded out your playsets and gotten your Cells and Blazers, this is where stuff starts to branch off. If you're playing an open center deck, you might as well finish the playset of the included weapon, Lostless Maser. It's not as good as Lostless Buster, but Lostless Buster is $10 apiece. You might as well also try to get more copies of Dimension Mirror and Dimension Shadow Gate. The reason I didn't mention these above is due to the fact that they aren't useful in closed center decks.
In a closed center build, you'll want to focus more on Vanity Cells and Blazer. You'll probably need to make fewer decisions on what to cut from your Lost Deck, but that also means you don't have access to Shadow Gate and Dimension Mirror, which can be a pain. It wouldn't be a problem except that this means that you have to either stick with what you have or buy into Lost World's more expensive cards. Dimension Revenge might be your best friend if you're playing closed center. I know it has in my Shadow Shade and Dragonblood Sect games, at least.
In Closing
I don't really have much to say here, to be honest. TL;DR: Lost Dimension is a good special set. Buy Vanity Cells. Get your Zascythes. Feel free to come back to this article later, as I doubt Lost World will ever be irrelevant. As always, Links and References for card sources, databases, Discord servers, and my Ko-Fi are at the top of the blog's desktop layout. Stay frosty.
