Brushing Off the Dust

Heyhey, I live here now. I'm Alchemist_Pants, also known as edgelord, Pants, Jake, and Buddy Jacoby (editor's note: I am not actually Buddy Jacoby. Please do not confuse Jake Harrison the blogger with Buddy Jacoby, the YouTuber). I'm taking over after all this time for this blog. It's a shame to see how little Buddyfight content is created and I want to fix that by adding a library of budget decks if I can. I wouldn't be surprised if you don't know me, so here I go.

I played Vanguard since its release in English, more or less. Specifically, I started playing at the beginning of the Limit Break wonky era, or the release of Slash of the Silver Wolf. I've played ever since, so I've got a pretty comprehensive knowledge of the game. I play a wide variety of clans and decks and can probably pick up and play just about anything. My main clans at the moment are Gear Chronicle, Nova Grappler, and Kagero. Aqua Force and Gold Paladin trail close behind and are what people tend to think of as my mains. I run a blog for the game, but right now I'm a little distant from it. The problem with it at the moment is that I just don't have a groove with cfv content at the moment. I'd rather wait until I get my joy back and make quality posts than to just shit stuff out for views.

I also have been pretty deeply entrenched in Shadowverse lately. It's a fantastic game. I recommend it for anyone looking for an enjoyable mobile game with an excellent F2P system and a fantastic art style. I started playing around Wonderland Dreams, but just got really into it. I play Rune and Shadow currently and always enjoy trying to make Sword work.

Buddyfight, though? Different story. I originally tried out the game circa Golden Buddy Champion Box and really loved it more than I expected. Sad part, though, is that I didn't have the money at the time and all instances of the GBCB were bought out. Now I have to pay $168 to get it or hope I can get some deal. Regardless, I got into Buddyfight in real life thanks to Chang, the guy who ran the blog before I got here. He acted as a middle man between me and his locals, one of the bigger BDF stores in the country, for about four months. In that time, I quit the game and came back into it. Yeah. I love Buddyfight. It's so open. Almost any deck can win with a competent pilot. It's relatively cheap (availability is a problem, but that's not going to stop me). All of the content you find, regardless of game quality, has a high production value or has a lot of love and care put into it.

Now, dear reader, if any of you are anything like me, you'd probably be questioning my knowledge of the game after that last paragraph. I sit on the shoulders of giants. First off, most of my knowledge of advantage and the game itself comes from Buddyfight Theory. Discontinued in 2016 (hey, just like this blog), the math all still holds up and the articles are engaging. It's a style of blogging I really look up to, being able to break cards down into simple math is something I find difficult at times but is always mesmerizing to me when someone else does it. Anyway, though, this is an excellent cram school for anyone looking to start. While it doesn't have anything past the Hundred era, even the archetype overviews hold up really well. The World overviews are also fantastic, as Buddyfight has a tendency to avoid creeping out older good spells, as far as I know, at least.

Outside of BDFT, though, I've also got a connection to the community as a whole, that being Chang, the former The Boy for this blog. He has played BDF far longer than me and is typically willing to at least theorycraft for any given deck when I need help. For that, I have to thank him. There's also Buddyspoiler's Discord, which is linked on the side (in desktop view). While I do have my own Discord, it's primarily for Vanguard. I appreciate the people in Buddyspoiler's chat. Because of that, I am going to link cards mentioned in articles to Buddyspoiler if possible. If I can't, I'll just link to the official cardlist like Blaise did for BDFT. I find Buddyspoiler's layout appealing and faster-loading than the cardlist, which is why I prefer it, aside from the fact that I just want to support the community surrounding the game.

So yeah, that's about it for now. In real life, I currently play Sun Dragons, Ozons, Prism Dragons, Duel Jaeger, Thunder Empire, and DDW set spell.dek. Duel Jaeger is my closest deck to completeness, but I'm overall a budget player for this game at the moment. I hope that I can live up to your expectations, assuming youhave any. Until next time, stay frosty.
